Sheridan's Gratitude Turkey
It's that busy time of year when everyone is gearing up for the holiday season. So much helpful information was shared at our November APT meeting, I strongly encourage you to review the minutes if you were unable to attend. Our APT theme this year is BALANCE. This month I shared the following quote.
“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.”
– Albert Einstein
I mentioned in the meeting that while I agree that this is an idea that can serve us all well in our daily lives; I also believe that sometimes being still and reflecting on things can help us make sure we are moving in ways that help us get where we actually hope to go. Since it is in our role as parents that we connect with one another, I asked that everyone take some time in the weeks ahead to consider the following questions as they apply to their lives.
What is it that you want most for your children?
What are you doing to that end? What else could you be doing?
What might you be doing that is creating obstacles?
Mr. Simeck spoke to us about what he has observed in his first year here, what his own personal educational vision is for our children, and a few other topics based on questions posed. He encouraged everyone to be on the look out for communication from the district regarding upcoming mission/vision meetings at which parent input will be sought. I have posted a TED talk by Tony Wagner below since he also spent some time sharing Mr. Wagner's view of what today's children really need from our schools. He feels that these ideas will have to be considered as our schools continue to figure out ways to better serve students' needs.
I encourage everyone to read the APT minutes (we hope to post them the Friday following each meeting) to learn about all of the wonderful things happening at Sheridan, in our District and in our community.
